Top 10 Songs to Wake You Up In The Morning

Feeling a bit sluggish from the long summer? Struggling to get out of bed and back into the classroom groove? Spinebreaker Thislia is here to help, with Top Ten Songs to wake up to in the morning, to get you up out of your home and feeling pumped for the day. Let’s get straight to it. In no particular order…

Little Talks by Of Monsters and Men

This is an upbeat, happy song (introduced to me by a friend who I sometimes think has a heart made of ice, which I think shows the power this song can have over your emotions). The lyrics are about a widow who is struggling to cope after her husband’s death, and he is consoling her from the afterlife – not a happy topic, true, but I still think it has an addictive tune to listen to, and the music video is incredible.

He’s a Pirate by Klaus Badelt

There is absolutely NOTHING like waking up to this song. I’m addicted to the Pirates of the Caribbean movies (mainly the first one), and this tune sums them up perfectly. Dramatic, exciting… It even SOUNDS like pirates, if you get me. My only problem with it is that it’s far, far too short. To sum up – you will feel phenomenal getting up and ready for the day listening to this song. Imaginary sword fights are encouraged – nay, compulsory.

Walk 500 Miles by The Proclaimers

First of, this song makes me smile when I hear it, without fail. It’s such a classic, and I really love that you can hear The Proclaimer’s Scottish Accents so clearly. Second, I always want to get up and march when listening to this song (and thanks to my constant lateness, I often have to quick-march anyway). So a good wake up and lateness song – an excellent combo.

Wake Up Boo by The Boo Radleys

I think this is the most cheerful song on this list, and even though it starts with ‘Summer’s gone’, it has a very summery feel to it. The chorus is my favourite part – it’s bright, sunny, fun and repeats ‘wake up’ a bunch of times. It pumps you with the urge to ‘get up and go’, which is exactly what you need first thing on a school day.

Here Comes the Sun by The Beatles

This type of song would normally not be something I listen to in the morning. It doesn’t wake me up (I would recommend some screamo lyrics to get you awake, then a gentle snooze listening to one of your top ten). But once you are at least semi-awake, it’s perfect. Here Comes the Sun is so gentle and tranquil! I think it will give you some peace of mind and help you feel positive about whatever horrors your day may hold.

Mr Blue Sky by Electric Light Orchestra

This song has sun and smiles written all over it. It’s perfect to wake up to, especially with sun streaming in through the curtains and a warm, cloudless blue sky to great you… Even if the weather is wet and miserable, and you have to wear your newest shoes because they’re the only ones without holes in them, this song can make it all better – though I always found the end a bit random. Just me?

Sooner Or Later by Michael Tolcher

YES! Is what I said when I was compiling this list, and remembered Sooner Or Later. In what is probably my all time favourite song, M. Tolcher tells us is to make the most of life, and that there is plenty of time to grow up and make mistakes. When your down, put this track on – it always makes me feel so much better, which is why this song made my top ten – it has great lessons in it, which are good to remember if your day is going downhill.

15 Minutes by The Yeah You’s

Ok, scratch Wake Up Boo – THIS song is the happiest song on the list. The whole thing bursts with excitement and ambitions – from the build up at the start to the trail-out at the end. This song will definitely get you up out of bed and planning for that dream life that will become a reality one day…fingers crossed. But don’t ever forget the wonderful things you already have!

You Give Love a Bad Name by Bon Jovi

The last two songs are songs that make me feel awesome in the morning, that will get you out of bed dancing and pulling stupid faces while you mouth the words like a rock star. You Give Love a Bad Name is on Barney from How I met Your Mother’s ‘Get Psyched’ mix, and I couldn’t agree more. This is the perfect type of song to wake up to in the morning – rocky with a boss guitar solo. Most Bon Jovi songs are great to wake up to, but this is my favourite.

Harder Than You Think by Public Enemy

This song has been all over TV in London 2012 Paralympic Games adverts, so I thought I would try it out as a wake up song… It worked wonders! It’s the trumpet, almost big band element that it has playing in the background that really gets you dancing. The tune is FUN and easy to move to… I love it. It has great swag, which will put you in such a good mood in the morning.

There you have it – Top Ten wake up songs. Do you agree with the list though? What are your wake up tunes?

Haha loving the idea! I always tend to listen to songs which make me giggle, or have a really good music video. Get me energized for the day ahead! At the moment, I’m going through a Foo Fighters stage, listening to Learn To Fly (great music video, dave grohl is… priceless). Although, one morning I’d love to wake up to a 50′s radio station, the cheesy jingles and the happiness ^.^ corny, I know.

Ohhhh I’d love to wake up to “He’s a Pirate” by Klaus Badelt, that would be awesome, though I’d probably get very much into character and start quoting the film ^.^ great choice!

Mr. Blue Sky. One word. Yes. 80′s themed morning please! Plus, throw in a bit of Bon Jovi, I dance like a rockstar ‘every’ morning!
