Entries

 

1. This competition is open to UK residents (including the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man) aged 13 -18 years inclusive, except employees of the Promoter, their families, agents and anyone else connected with this competition.



 

2. You can enter online: by filling in the online entry form on Spinebreakers.co.uk and either 1) entering 100 word text; 2) uploading a video file of you telling your 100 word story; 3) uploading an audio files of your 100 word story.



 

3. You may enter as many times as you wish, provided that each entry complies with these terms.



 

4. Whatever way you choose to enter, you must include your full name, age, city and telephone number together with your 100 word story, so that we can contact you if you are one of the winning entries.  Your age will determine if you are eligible for entry.



 

5. The Promoter is unable to return any entries submitted.



 

6. You now grant the Promoter (and third parties authorised by the Promoter) an exclusive, worldwide, irrevocable licence (for the full period of any rights in the entry) to use, display, publish, transmit, copy, make derivative works or podcasts from, edit, alter, store, re-format, sell and sub-licence the entry for such purposes.



 

7. The closing date for receipt of entries is 11 August 2008. All entries must be received by 5pm (BST).



 

Prizes



 

8. There will be three winners. The three winners will have their story recorded by a celebrity and published in an anthology alongside 50 short-listed Paper Cuts competition entries.



 

9. Each winner will have his or her story read / performed by a celebrity in a recording studio nominated by the Promoter. All winners will be able to attend the recording session where their entry is to be recorded. The Promoter shall pay the costs of or arrange transfers to and from the nominated studio from anywhere in the UK, including Channel Islands and the Isle of Man for each winner and, if the winner is under the age of 18, a parent or guardian.



10. The three winners will also receive a year’s supply of Penguin books. Two books per month will be sent to each winner for the period of one year.

 

11. All winners will be required to verify their age and confirm their agreement to these terms, the publicity obligations and the use by the Promoter of their entry, before a prize is awarded. If an entrant is under the age of 18, the consent of a parent /guardian will also be required.



 

12. Prizes are as stated and no cash or other alternative prizes will be offered.



 

13. Winners may be asked to take part in reasonable publicity. By taking part in this promotion you have given your permission, if you are a winner, for a film of you to be taken and featured online and used for publicity purposes and for the use by the Promoter of your entry without further compensation. 



 

Judging and voting



 

14. All valid entries submitted will be displayed online at www.spinebreakers.co.uk. All entries will be subject to judging (which will include independent judges and one judge from the Promoter). The judges will choose 100 entries to be short listed for public vote. The judges will choose the entries that they consider, in their absolute discretion, are the best short stories and that best communicate the subject of ‘what matters to you’. The short list will take place on or before 22 August 2008.



 

15. The public vote will be held between 26 August and 1 September 2008.



 

16. Voting is open to UK residents (including the Channel Islands and the Isle of Man). 



 

17. Multiple votes can be made for all of the short listed entries.



 

18. If the Promoter considers, in its absolute discretion, that there has been any vote rigging or block voting for an entry, that entry will be withdrawn from the public vote and will not proceed to the next round.



 

19. The 10 entries that receive the most public votes and any other entries considered by the Promoter (in its absolute discretion) to meet the criteria will then be judged by a panel of experts (which will include independent judges and one judge from the Promoter). The judges will choose three entries to be the final winners. The judges will choose the entries that they consider, in their absolute discretion, are the best short stories and that best communicate the subject of ‘what matters to you’.



 

20. The judges’ decisions shall be final and no correspondence will be entered into. Final judging will take place on or before 5 September 2006. Winners will be notified within seven days of judging by phone and/or email.



 

21. The full or professional names of all the judges will be made available on request. Please send a stamped addressed envelope to the correspondence address below marked “Paper Cuts Judges names”.



 

22. Incomplete or illegible entries will not be considered.



 

23. The Promoter shall be entitled to reject any entry or disqualify any winner or entrant, if the Promoter believes that: (i) the whole or any part of an entry has been copied from elsewhere; or (ii) the short story in any entry identify any individual that has not agreed to be identified; or (iii) the entry of any entry are defamatory, indecent or violate any third party’s rights.



 

24. The Promoter is not responsible for any incomplete, illegible, lost, delayed or damaged entries. The Promoter and its agents accept no responsibility for difficulties experienced in submitting an entry to this competition by any of the methods offered. Proof of posting or proof of sending will not be accepted as proof of receipt.



 

25. Details of the prize winners names, counties and winning entries will be available by sending an SAE no later than 31 October 2008 to the correspondence address marked “Paper Cuts Winners”. No other correspondence will be entered into.



 

26. The Promoter reserves the right to withdraw or amend this promotion in the event of any unforeseen circumstances outside its reasonable control.



 

27. The Promoter reserves the right to terminate or temporarily suspend this competition in the event of technical or other difficulties that may compromise its integrity.
