Feed Me

It was the walls, the walls were the problem. The day the snake came out of my tummy. I have a disease that means I can't swallow or digest food properly. I have wanted to taste chocolate all my life. Just the smell makes my taste buds tingle. My friends make me jealous because I can't eat it.
So one morning, my mum and dad took me to hospital to have my feeding tube out. I was finally going to taste chocolate in just a few hours. The doctors seemed quite nice at first, but then they revealed my worst fear. They said that they weren't going to put me to sleep fully during the operation because it may be too dangerous. I was nearly going to give up, but with my mum sobbing next to me, I decided to surrender.
When I woke up after the operation, it was really painful and I felt like I had been beaten up. Mum was standing next to me crying again! Why was she crying? I was still alive! Anyway, the doctor said I was going to have my first taste of food very soon. I couldn't wait!
Soon after, the doctor came back in and sat me up in bed. A nurse brought a tray of food up to my bed, placed it on my lap and revealed the food. The smell started to make my taste buds tingle, like it used to. I remember the doctor telling me to eat up so that I grow big and strong. That made me laugh, no one had ever said that to me before. I put the slab of chocolate in my mouth…it tasted horrible, really sour. I spat it out. Everyone in the room thought there was something wrong with me. Dad was laughing at me and mum was crying again. This time, they were happy tears. The jelly babies on the tray looked much nicer, sweet and scrumptious! I picked a red one and started chewing. I swallowed, and everyone gave a sigh of relief. It felt weird going down my throat, like something was stuck down there. I was okay! I could have packed lunches, eat birthday cakes, and…
My whole body started shaking…like a volcano. I couldn't breathe, and I could feel my eyes getting heavy. All I could hear was beeping from the machines beside me. I felt like I was on fire, extremely hot and sweaty. Everything was spinning around me, like I was on a merry-go-round. I used to like going to funfairs with dad, but I don't think I'll ever like them again after the spinning. I tried to stop myself from falling asleep, but nothing could keep from closing my eyes.
I felt an odd feeling in my chest, and then a long beeping sound consumed my ears. That's all I could hear. Suddenly, the sound around me just stopped. Silence. Silence. Silence.
I suppose mum has something to cry about now.
