My Great Escape

By Geoff  R

And so it began. My day was normal, birds singing and trees rustling in the wind. I was on my way to school viewing the boring sights of New York that I always saw on my way to school. The school was now visible as it had The Chrysler Building directly behind it. As I was close to it, four boys much taller than me appeared from nowhere. They stepped out, blocking the entrance to school.

I looked at them and they stared back with evil in their eyes. I wanted to run; so I backed away slowly; very slowly. Almost free; constantly backing away, when suddenly they started to follow. There was only one thing to do; RUN! I ran for my life, rapidly retracing my steps.

Nowhere to run. Nowhere to hide.

I could still hear their voices, shouting at me, wanting to beat me up and I didn’t know why. As I was running around a sharp bend, I saw an opening; an alley way. I quickly dodged the cars that were swarming the streets of New York and dashed into the alley way. I soon regretted coming down this way as there were no exits. All that was there was a big brick wall; higher than I would’ve ever imagined also a few rubbish bins were there. As I was looking at it, I heard the boys’ voices again. I feared this was the end. So I quickly jumped behind a bin as they ran past me; shouting abuse.

The air was now rather cold, leaves blowing around on the floor. I wanted to get out of there; I stood up, brushed myself off and turned to look for an exit. And there it was. Standing in front of the exit was a big, black hairy canine. Its fur, waving in the wind, teeth as sharp as knives dripping with saliva and its massive red eyes were fixed; fixed on me.

As I was being watched, I was looking around to find another exit. There was only one place for that – UP. Up above were loads of washing lines and hopefully they would support my weight.

I started to move a bin very slowly; so that I could jump off to grab onto a line. I flung myself high. And….. SUCCESS!!!! I had grabbed the line; holding on very carefully. But I started to slip. One by one my fingers were coming off. I tried to stop. But; I fell!

As I was falling, thoughts were rushing into my head; aware that this was the end. When I finally crashed onto the floor, I felt pain on a level that I’d never known. I could only move my head, so I watched as the canine came up to me and start to eat me slowly and painfully.

All I could hope for is somebody to come and help or just wait in pain until the canine put me out of my misery.
