The Myth and The Old Man's Cry

                       The Myth

Myths are spoken about a planet, a planet that is not far from earth but very far from our minds. Some say our life form used to inhabit this planet for generations and others say we destroyed it. They speak of a planet that seems as though it is a fairy tale, with every step you take grasped by its beauty. Some speak of the planet as though it was desolate land, a wasteland were every man was fighting for himself, there was no peace, no love only hate. No one ever knew how it got there of course, only foolish guesses. Some believe it was the will of God that brought the planet there, like it was a sign. Others think that science made the planet and some believe that it was the power of man that gave the planet a home. Great arguments have occurred over the debate of the planet and its uprising, people fighting for what they believe. No-one actually knows if they are right or wrong. If you ask me, the planet is a lie, just a camp fire story, but I never was one for myths.

                 The Old Man's Cry

My Grandpa always used to ramble to me about the planet but I never used to take much notice in what he was saying. With his old age creeping up on him he started acting really strange and my mother thought it would be best for me not to see him as much. But as I was his only grandson my father only thought it was fair for him to see me. Every Sunday my mum dropped me off at grandpa’s care home, which stank of old people and the ladies that worked there were very hostile towards the visitors. I tried to avoid them a well as I could. Usually I just switched on the TV and let grandpa annoy someone else with his stories. However, one Sunday something happed. Grandpa was rambling on as ever and I was sitting trying to ignore him but the power had gone out, so the TV wasn’t working and I was sitting in a cold room in the dark. After about 5 minutes I noticed something. I couldn’t figure out what it was at first, then I looked over at grandpa, his eyes were wide open and he wasn’t saying a word. I called his name a few times but he wasn’t answering, it was like he was staring at something or someone. I got out of my seat and walked over to him, I taped him on the shoulder and suddenly he grabbed me by the arm and pulled me close and with a terrified voice he said “The Planet, its coming I ‘m telling you boy its coming. There will be no time to run, no time to hide, the lights of earth will dim and the place you once called home will be snatched away from you and when the planet comes it won’t go back”. And then he stopped, his eyes closing slowly, his hand still grasping my arm. I tugged my arm free and backed away slowly with a shiver going down my spine the words “The planet is coming” buzzing in my head. Grandpa was dead. And just then the lights came back on.
