The Mysterious Cupboard
By Sharma Samuel
I felt the coldness of the cruel wind go through me. I shivered slightly. Wary of a continuous “clack” sound, I turned around. There was no one there. The trees swayed from side to side almost as if they were in a trance. “Clack……clack” the sound was closer. I span around quickly in a bid to catch the person making this sound; again there was no one there. But I knew someone was following me. Scared I picked up my pace, walking faster and faster. My silky hair was floating in the wind, like a scene from the movies. I heard a loud thump. Startled I jumped. Somebody had just slammed their car door. When I realised what it was I laughed to myself, amused at how easily I got scared. Visualizing the hot coco I’d be having made me even more anxious to get into the warmth of my house. I was aware of a sudden pain in my head. I placed my fingers on the area which hurt, rubbing to soothe it. Something trickled down my neck. I gasped with terror. There was blood on my fingers.
I woke up dazed and disorientated. I looked around cautiously. There was nothing in the dark room except a cupboard in the far corner. I got up. I frantically began searching for an exit of some sort. I didn’t want to believe it, but as I dreaded there wasn’t one. I wondered how I got in here. In this cold cell like room. “Help! Help! ” I yelled at the top of my lungs. Warm tears trembled along my jaw as I realized no one was going to come to my aid.
My thoughts were intervened by a pleasant, soft meow of a house trained cat coming from inside the cupboard. It then quickly metamorphosed into a blood-curdling roar, that of an untamed animal. Intrigued by the cupboard in the dark corner of the room. I half dared myself to unlock the unfathomable thing. My heart was pounding it felt as if it would rip out of my chest. I took a deep breath and with a surge of courage I reached out.
The cupboard door screeched open. Dust gushed out. I turn around, waiting for the dust to settle. Then, I saw it. My nose flared with fear. My eyes widened with terror.
There it was.
