In his fictional novel 1984, George Orwell portrays a courageous man, Winston Smith. Without knowing who can be trusted or where his ideas will take him, Winston embarks on a quest against the people controlling government. The language and political ideas of Newspeak, this government controlled society, are a lot to get to grips with as there’s too much going on to take it all in at once. However, as the story unravels, the plot comes together and suddenly all loose ends are tied up and everything is clear, and seems relevant. The question as to whether secrets, such as Winston’s love and his diary can be held under wraps are answered. Overall, it’s a fantastic book and should definitely be on your reading list.

Over all, it was a good book that, although it takes a while to understand, is very worth reading.

Review of 1984: Orwell’s use of description easily allows the scene to jump out of the page, thus making you feel, sense and believe the action until the point where it’s questionable whether entering a room called 101 again is entirely a sensible idea...
