Unmissable: the whole idea of this book is still very relevant today. The inspiration for many other books and songs, this tale of a totalitarian government in a dystopian future shows both the true price of freedom and how lies can be spread so that everyone believes them. It is a cautionary tale about betrayal, as you follow Winston Smith try to rebel against the Party he is oppressed by. Just the ideas in the book, such as people becoming 'unpersons' and ceasing to exist, can send shivers down your spine. A brilliant read.
