Aijemal's Review
By Aijemal Bakitbet / Spinebreakers Crew
The Confederacy of Dunces is a complex psychological book, at times a little hard to understand. But the author portrays the mind of an overeducated, over-opinionated and definitely overweight Ignatius Reilly who lives with his mother in New Orleans. He is a complicated character who believes that he is better than everyone else and is sure that his way is the only right way and no one should stand in the way of his genius. He is no doubt the most off-putting main character in literature, so you either have to love him or hate him. He has a completely different perception of the world around him and is convinced that he has been put in place by some higher power. But when he is forced to get a job because of family circumstances, he still does not blend in with the ordinary American citizen. How does this monstrous creation survive the unexacting word of work?
