Jordan's text review of Catcher in the Rye
By Jordan Rossi / Spinebreakers Crew
‘The Catcher in the Rye’ by D. J. Salinger is an amazing book because it is written entirely in a train of thought. I felt involved in the book because the main character, Holden Caulfield, is talking directly to you. The book really grips you when Holden tells you his next plan of action and then goes off on a tangent talking about something else. In chapter eight he tells us he is going to ride on a train and then tells us about a previous train journey he had. However about half-way through the book I began getting tired of how Holden would ramble on about things that did not involve the story.
The controversial nature of the story also added to my enjoyment of it. The way Holden swore, smoked and was sex mad really hit home because they are all things teenagers think about. I found it amazing the way Salinger made me feel as if a teenager was really talking to me.
Overall the book was very enjoyable and I would recommend this book to all teenagers as it has its humorous moments but also makes you think in various aspects.
