Of Mice and Men

John Steinbeck

Stephany's Review Of Mice and Men

By Stephany Davies

Basically, it’s a story about two men, that want to be free in a little land of their own, living the ‘American Dream.’ The lead characters are George Milton, a small man with a quick, sharp brain, whereas Lennie Small is a big man with a childish mentality who has come to rely on George since his aunt Clara died.

What makes this book of interest, whether you’re studying it or not, is the way the author describes characters by making comparisons to nature.

Steinbeck also allows you to use your emotions, for example when Lennie commits crimes he doesn’t mean to and George, despite his anger, pities him above all else. Set in 1930s America, a period in time where it was very much every man for himself, their friendship is even more key to this timeless stories success.

Although the ending isn’t what I’d hoped for, I’d recommend Of Mice And Men because it reminds us how special good friends are.
