Rose Thompson's review of The Rotters' Club
By Rose Thompson / Spinebreakers Crew
The Rotters' Club is the gripping tale of an adolescent boygrowing up in 70’s Birmingham, which is heavily influenced by the author’s,Jonathan Coe, own experience as a youth. With a rich political undertones toset the scene, this novel tells the story of Ben Trotter, and the intertwinedlives of his family and friends. This book was thoroughly enjoyable and had mefrantically turning the pages, despite being difficult to get into. I foundmyself asking my mum about useless contraptions such as salad spinners, andrummaging through her CD collection for some Eric Clapton. Overall, I foundthis read to be very insightful, and would recommend to anyone with interest inthe era, or perhaps someone wishing to read a good teen novel.
