Alternative chapter - chapter 3
By Emma / Spinebreakers Crew
Reggie returned home the evening to feel a bitter chill around the house, winter was definitely setting in. Aaron came round later on that night carrying a high caffeine drink in his hand. They sat in the living room and flicked through the devouring.
“These demons will watch you shivering, Tempting with desperation for warmth, Whispering the taunts of a thousand chills, Not letting your thoughts change, Not letting your eyes close”.
“This is crazy, who the hell would come up with this?” asked Aaron taking a sip from the sugary drink.
“Maybe its not made up, maybe its a real diary!” replied Reggie joking.
“Haha, so funny” said Aaron turning over the page.
“hey, why don’t we try this whole sorry night thing? Just for a laugh” she replied
“Reggie, you honestly don’t get freaked out by anything, but yeah, lets go for it, i mean its not like its real” laughed Aaron.
Reggie walked over to the fire and lit the ash logs, the flame turned red and then rose trembling from the wood.
“Vours we are scared, fear runs through our veins, come and prove your real, our souls are ready for the taking” whispered Reggie trying to keep a straight face.
Suddenly, the lights went out and the fire burned dead, all was dark and a frozen wind gushed through the house. The door slowly creaked open, with wild eyes Reggie turned around, only to see Henry standing in the doorway with Kappy. She silently walked him back up the stairs of their quiet house, with no idea of the event about to happen.
She kissed Henry good night then shut the door, his aluminous blue nightlight glowed eerily in his cold room, the temperature began to drop violently. Henry could smell his own fear as he shivered beneath his quilt. That’s when he heard the crashing sound, his window cracked and a silver reflection hit his face. He screamed but not much sound came out, just a feeble cry. Overcome with fear he hid deeper in his bed, then all went silent.
Reggie sat downstairs with Aaron watching television, her head with no worries at all.
Morning came and the icy sun rose half way into the horizon, the ground was wet and dewy, only a few cars were on the streets. Reggie awoke startled, the sound of sizzling was pouring up the stairs. She slipped her robe on and walked sleepily downstairs. Henry was stood in the kitchen with a frying pan, a nasty smell arose to Reggies nostrils.
“whats that henry?” she asked casually but with terror in her eyes.
“nothing” he replied, his mouth curled into a smile as he dropped the contents into the bin.
After 20 minutes or so, he returned upstairs to take a shower. Reggie opened the bin and looked inside, with shock she stepped back in horror. The family budgie lay dead and burnt amongst the rubbish.
Reggie sat down and stared into space, she tried to think of the reasons why he would have done this, then it hit her. The Vours.
