They Ran
By Adam / Spinebreakers Crew
They ran, the gleaming box of the elevator up ahead, CLICK, CLACK, the mum ‘thing’ was still following them, smoke pouring out. The corridor seemed so long, every step was like time had stopped. Distance seemed infinite. CLICK CLACK, still she was coming “you wouldn’t run away would you!” the mum ‘thing’ hollered. Reggie responded for Henry with a flick of the finger. Finally!!!! They reached the elevator. Henry eyed it suspiciously. “No...” he mouthed fear stopping him from saying more. “Come on” Reggie said, coaxing him in. “I won’t let anything bad happen”. And, she meant it. “Promise?” asked Henry, instantly happier.
“Promise” replied Reggie. Henry slowly pushed himself inside. Reggie pressed the up button. The doors slowly slid shut. Reggie flicked off the mum ‘thing’ again. The thing was too close. A hand protruded through the closing doors. “NOOOO” screamed Henry who was shrinking into a corner trying to keep away. “Come here Henry and give your Mummy a kiss” shrieked the ‘thing’. Reggie, kicked, Reggie scratched. Smoke poured out the deep gouge marks she made. Finally, the doors closed sealing the mum ‘thing’ outside and them inside. Well, most of the mum ‘thing’ a single arm flopped about on the floor. Reggie swiftly brought her boot down on it. It imploded into smoke.
The elevator suddenly stopped, groaned a bit and fell. Down and down. Deeper and deeper. “Henry” yelled Reggie over the whistling air. “Think happy. Think of Kappy, Think of good times” As suddenly as it started, it stopped. The metal turned to wood and the leftovers of the arm to squirming maggots.
