We are all humans - Stacy's review of Tribe
By Stacy Reeve / Spinebreakers Crew
Tribe follows the journey of Bruce Parry and his crew discovering the wilderness of the world, where civilizations live in places so diverse from the West that it is almost incomprehensible. However, Tribe exposes the intriguing lives of these people allowing us to understand how they live and the major challenges they face in daily life.
The TV series of Tribe has been shown in over 15 countries and, although I have seen a few of these episodes, it is the power of words that truly shows his journey; describing in detail the captivating societies that inhabit various corners of our earth.
Tribe is a book that offers a vast educational (yet also interesting) journey which really aims to display how we, the western world, are posing a huge threat to these tribes who we often find comfort in, cherishing the fact that these pristine cultures still exist in the world.
For me, Tribe was not necessarily a book I would choose yet I enjoyed the wealth of knowledge I gained along with the fact I could relax and engage in these cultures far, far away from the fast paced 21st century life we all lead.
Parry is such a lovable person, with his writing showing how he passionately connects with each Tribe and lives with them in their natural state.
Tribe is thankfully a book that has not turned into some daunting adventure into the unknown, nor a book that shows Parry as some kind of adventure hero. Merely it shows that these people, although they have differences, are rich in hospitality, good humour and wisdom and in the end we are all humans and perhaps not that different at all.
