HitchCon '09
By Orlando McCarthy / Spinebreakers Crew
I don’t think that I have ever seen so many people wearing dressing gowns. Especially in the centre of London.
HitchCon is a yearly convention that gathers fans of The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy together in one place. This year it took place at the Royal Festival Hall.
The day started off at the Photo shoot, were all the fans gathered outside in their dressing gowns and towels to be photographed. Then we made our way inside where there were various exhibitions and activities going on throughout the day. There were 3 shows that took place in the auditorium on the day. The first was a talk with some of the people involved with the book, radio series and movie. This gave fans an insight into what really happened behind the scenes. The second was a reading from the new book And Another Thing... by its author Eoin Colfer. This gave fans a sneak-peak to what the book contained, and judging by the massive applause that followed after it, they weren’t disappointed. The third and final show was a live ‘radio’ show of the first ever episode of Hitchhiker’s, with the entire original cast. This let fans cast they’re mind back to the first time that this phenomenon made air, and brought a certain nostalgic feel to the air.
Overall this would’ve been the perfect day out for any Hitchhiker fan, and I really enjoyed it.
