All That Glitters Is Not Gold
By Kathryn Bell / Spinebreakers Crew
I had been meaning to read the Artemis Fowl series for a long time and the reputation they had didn’t disappoint. First of all I was hit by what a strange ‘hero’ Artemis proves to be. In fact, the word doesn’t really apply as a twelve-year-old genius criminal is hardly heroic. His witty snipes really lighten up the book’s conversation, particularly when he is talking to Holly.
I must admit the playful, intriguing narrative Eoin Colfer writes with pleasantly surprised me. It was very funny in parts and the story itself is very imaginative. The way some of the scenes are written gives it more of a ‘criminal thriller’ feel, which I really liked.
Artemis Fowl combined some of my favourite genres into one brilliant novel that didn’t feel as if it went on for long enough! This is a fantastic book that I would really recommend.
And now I’m off to see if I can get the rest of the series from the library…
