Definitely worth reading
By Ben / Spinebreakers Crew
Stuck in a town that is always the same. No way out and nothing interesting happening? Then suddenly you are thrown into a world of casters, curses and a rapid change of social circle? Sounds a bit too far-fetched to be comparable with real life right? Wrong! Beautiful Creatures links the fantasy world of Ethan and Lena and ties it with our own.
Ethan Wate has lost his mother and now his father is a recluse, locking himself in the study, leaving only Amma the voodoo practising housekeeper to raise him. Even worse, he is locked in a town focused only on social standing and the American civil war. He wants out but doesn't know how.
Then someone new arrives. Lena Duchannes, related to the town shut in, Macon who no-one has seen or heard from in years. She doesn't fit in and everybody knows it. Things happen, and these are no normal things. Suddenly, Ethan is torn between her world, and his own and there is no middle ground.
Beautiful Creatures is a masterfully crafted story that is set in a vivid world between our own and something purely magical. It draws you in with each word you read and makes you lust to know what will happen when you turn the next page. Ethan and Lena are so full in character you cannot help but care for them and wish them well.
Definitely worth reading, I am avidly looking forward to the next instalment of the Ethan – Lena story.
