Books On The Run
By Isabel Chinan / Spinebreakers Crew
As you reach the end of that book which you have been attached to for months, do you ever wish another person could share the same reading experience that you have just had? Recommending your book to friends or websites might not be as fulfilling as you wish, maybe you want something more?
That’s where ‘book crossing’ makes its famous appearance. If you are not familiar with the term, imagine sitting on a park bench, in a coffee shop or waiting for a bus, and noticing a book innocently laying there waiting to be read. As you read this mysteriously deserted book, you begin to realise it has travelled the world, been read in different countries by different people, and now you are a part of its journey.
This February Penguin books have teamed up with USC (a leading national clothing store), to promote their new book ‘Black Rabbit Summer’ by Kevin Brooks. ‘Black Rabbit Summer’ delivers a compelling and enjoyable read, which tells the story of five teenagers reuniting for the last time before they go their separate ways in life, but when jealousy and tensions arise two teenagers go missing, and unwanted secrets are revealed.
‘Black-Rabbit Summer’ will be left in the changing rooms of USC waiting to be taken and read, then it is your choice where you wish to leave it, so it can be picked up to begin its book crossing journey...
You'll know if you've found one as it has a post-it note saying 'I'm free, I'm not lost' .
If you find the book read it, let us know what you think, but also go to www.bookcrossing.com to say where you found the book and then leave it somewhere fun for someone else to discover so the book can continue its journey.
It could end up anywhere in the world - how exciting is that?
Anyone who believes that they are the first one to find a book, can contact Jodie.mullish@uk.penguingroup.com to claim their prize.
