A timeless classic
By Lauren Lindley / Spinebreakers Crew
Young rich and beautiful Dorian Gray is faultless, this book by oscar wilde is a timeless classic made to entice and persuade many an age. Its fantasy plot and morale message behind it makes it more exciting and enticing.
Dorian is adored by many people of power including Basil Hallward who is immensley captured by Dorians beauty and therefore becomes obsessed, if you like, by his immense looks. Just by the first paragraph it wraps you in a blanket of innocence secured by the ever poetic prolouge giving an outline of art; the main subject of the book.
However, when further explored it is apparent that it reveals the ugly side of beauty. The book could be classified as a classic gothic horror and explores sensitive issues such as homosexuality, however in these times this is classed as modern lifestyle and becomes interpreted in the book. However, the book is so capturing because of the love shared. The most interesting part of the book is the supernatural way the picture ages and he doesn't even though this is knowingly untrue the description of this happenening convinces me; at least; to believe.
Overall this book is a must read, its a controvert classic with a modern twist updating the look and feeling provoked from the book!
