You and Your Perfect Life
By Alex / Spinebreakers Crew
“You and Your Perfect Life” is the final song on the fictional album, Juliet, by Tucker Crowe in Nick Hornby’s “Juliet, Naked”. These are some alternative lyrics I wrote for the song; though a few lines appear in the book, they aren’t included here.
I can’t say I didn’t see it coming; Paris won the duel this time. Maybe I misunderstood, and after all The role of Romeo wasn’t mine.
Face behind a mask, I wasn’t me and you weren’t you. Denying everything won’t work For this lonely Montague, Oh honey – What I thought I had, Well she’s still waiting, that first night. Romeo was wrong about you, You and your perfect life.
Juliet, she chose to do as told; Make her daddy proud and play it safe. Capulet, my princess, just a little out of reach. Romeo doesn’t need you anyway.
Face behind a mask, I wasn’t me and you weren’t you. Denying everything won’t work For this lonely Montague, Oh honey – What I thought I had, Well she’s still waiting, that first night. Romeo was wrong about you, You and your perfect life.
Fire and powder, burning me away. The only one still left among the flames. Juliet, think of me when you’re his loving wife – I don’t need you baby, you and your perfect life.
