Definitely Worth a Read
By Imogen Dalziel / Spinebreakers Crew
‘Petite Anglaise’ began life as a website blog, the title being the author’s original alias. Living in France with her husband ‘Mr Frog’ and their young child ‘Tadpole’, Sanderson discovers the power of blogging one day whilst sitting at her office desk. Soon, she is pouring her heart out on screen – no aspect of her life is left untouched, albeit with use of fake names and places. Steadily, her page attracts more and more readers, until it feels like people on the Internet understand the workings of her mind more than her husband, family, or closest friends! One person in particular – a Briton by the name of James – catches her attention, and, after agreeing to meet up with him in a bar one day, Sanderson realises he might be exactly what she has waited many painstaking, stressful years for...
Shockingly funny but also drenched with emotion and sympathy, ‘Petite Anglaise’ is definitely worth a read if you go for humorous accounts of every day life, with a touch of romance and the all-too-real struggles in relationships and friendships that everyone can relate to. Sanderson draws you in instantly, introducing you to every aspect of her life in an entertaining yet almost painful way.
The original blog attracted so much attention and became so controversial that Catherine Sanderson was fired from her job when she was revealed as the author. Too bad on her former boss – her work has received praise from critics all over the world, and I sincerely hope that she intends to add to this debut publication at a later date!
