Sophie's Ruby Red Playlist

By Sophie Leigh / Spinebreakers Crew

I have created a music playlist for Ruby Red.

The songs listed really remind me of the book and help me imagine the storyline :)

Here they are:

Mary Fahl
, Going Home
This song is when Ruby and her Father are leaving.

Yael Naim,New Soul
This song is when Ruby is alone in Johannesburg, her friends can't be with her, there is  a outbreak of fighting, and Julian is in trouble.

Kelly Clarkson, You Found me
This song is when Johanns and Ruby meet.

Tracey Chapman, Fast Car
All the troubles that Ruby goes through.

Katie Melua, I Cried For You
About Ruby's strong bond with Julian and how devastated she is when he departs.

George Harrison, I've got my mind set on you
This song is when Ruby cannot stop thinking about Johanns because she's so besotted about him.

Daniel Powter, Bad day
This song is when all Ruby's friends aren't there for her.

Dixie Chicks, Wide open spaces
This song is quite important because it shows how Ruby's community is racist and that she's needs space, space to be who she is and do what she wants freely. She wants to live in an equal place.

Enya, Carribean Blue
This reminds me of when Ruby meets Loretta and Johanns.

Betty Curse, Beautiful Together
Johanns and Ruby in the Boat they rent out.

Leona Lewis,Take a Bow
About how harsh the government, the police and most whites were towards blacks.

Crosby, Stills and Nash, Helplessly Hoping
This is about how Ruby hopes one day, in the future that everything will be equal, everyone will live in harmony and racism will be banished forever.
