I’d definitely recommend this book

‘Submarine’ is a unique novel which tells us the events of Oliver Tate’s life. The story is told in an abstract way, giving a blatant and pretty accurate account of teenage life.
The main character, Oliver, has a quirkiness about him that makes it easy to connect to him and makes the story seem both bizarre yet completely everyday at the same time. The distinctive phrasing used in the novel makes it even better to read, giving the reader contrast: Sometimes phrases used are blunt and to the point, whereas others flow like poetry.
The combination of characters and fun-writing makes ‘Submarine’ a great read and definitely a story that a lot of teens will be able to relate to. The author, Joe Dunthorne, does an excellent job at capturing the essence of teen life today in his first novel and I’d definitely recommend this book!
