Book to Screen Adaptation
By Lily Dessau / Spinebreakers Crew
After enjoying this short story so much, I was excited to see the screen interpretation.
As films go, it was engaging and well executed, however as an adaptation I don't feel it did the book justice. The plot of the film is very different, Benjamin is not accepted by his family and is instead left on the doorstep of an Old Person's home, where he grows up, or down I suppose!
Daisy is Benjamin's love interest in the film, but does not actually feature in the book, and the film predominantly tells the story of their attempt at a loving relationship under such difficult circumstances.
The film portrays Benjamin as being far more successful in love than the story, as expected of a Hollywood film. Nevertheless, I think this film is worth seeing to compare to the book. And Brad Pitt makes for a pretty attractive teenager on a motorbike!
