Incredibly Beautiful and Moving
By Sophie / Spinebreakers Crew
The Luxe wasn't my type of genre. But once I began the first page, the seductive, treacherous and secret world of The Luxe sucked me in and I couldn’t resist reading. It took me a good while before I very hesitantly had to set the book down.
It is 1899, and the characters within this novel are hiding their true feelings and being loyal to their reputation. Elizabeth Holland must marry unwillingly or the family secret will soon slip out that they are in debt. Elizabeth is attractive and loyal, Penelope is seductive and mischievous and Diana, Elizabeth’s youngest sister, is adventurous and alive. What the three girls want is inevitable...
The front cover is a glorious and attractive splendour. And the title 'The Luxe' spreads out wonderful and eye-catchingly at the top of the front cover in a wonderful font. A women, posing in an outrageous 1899 dress is on the front.
The book is set in third person which takes a detailed and emotional look at each person’s life and the feelings they are going through. The author has fitted the characters perfectly and assembled them to royalty.
The author has evidently done a lot of excellent research on New York. Columnists taken from the 1899 newspapers make an introduction at the start of each chapter. And every one is written formally.
Overall, I thought this novel was incredibly beautiful and moving and I can't wait for the next book 'Rumour's to get my hands on. The only bad point about the book is the girl on the front who looks slightly modern. Apart from that, I thoroughly enjoyed the read.
