Once, Then
By Rebecca / Spinebreakers Crew
Once I read a book that moved me in so many ways
It made me think of nothing else for days and days and days
Once I read of people living in a cruel place
There was only pain and hunger etched on every face
Once in this book there was a boy who didn’t know the facts
He spent his days committing many quite unselfish acts
Once his quest to find his parents nearly broke my heart
No matter what, he looked as hard as he’d done at the start
Once he made some friends who I loved just as much as him
Who lived in unfair circumstances that were very grim
Once he learned the truth but then it seemed it was too late
Because they were sent off to meet a very ugly fate
Then I read the second book about this poor young male
In certain ways it was it was a better, if more tragic, tale
Then it was more satisfying now he got things right
However certain details sometimes gave me quite a fright
Then he made some new friends who were kind and good as well
They made the awful nightmare world a better sort of hell
Then I read the ending and it shocked me through and through
I cried so much because this story practically was true
Then I though I knew that this had happened in the war
But Once and Then told things a way I’d never seen before
