The Wild Things

Dave Eggers

Runner up - Viola

By Viola

                           THE WILD THINGS

There was a little girl named poppy and she was picking juicy berries from the small, round berry bush. She went behind it and then as quick as a flash, out of a spooky dark hole in the sky, hopped out a cuddly duck-chick. The duck-chick was a cute chick, which quacked a lot when he spoke. Lovely poppy asked the very cute duck-chick if he had any friends, the duck-chick replied, “bakk-boota-pumpya”.

Poppy thought that it meant yes. When she woke up the next morning she ran straight to see the magic hole again, poppy was shocked and surprised when she saw where the hole was, because…. It wasn’t there any more. Instead there lay a patch of grass, in the middle of the bright green patch of grass lay a horse-cow, and a little magic snappy flower. Soon gorgeous poppy learnt to speak their strange languages, and they made up an extraordinary club, everybody wanted to be in it. But they had to know the password. The password was a very super cool password, it was duck-chick-horse-cow-snappy-snap. One day they had a fun exciting party and all the wild things were invited, they came to the party in a tree trunk limo. They had a wild time.

Tell me if you see them, I’m playing hide and seek, it’s really hard to find them!
