Aggie's review of The Wild Things
By Aggie / Spinebreakers Crew
To finally be able to read the winner of the 1964 Caldecott Medal as the “Most Distinguished Picture Book of the Year” is a real delight as we see the novel through the eyes of a young boy and his wild personality and instincts while growing up. It’s one, innocent young boy’s view on the world he knows versus the realistic world where his mother and sister don’t dare let their imagination go wild. This classic children’s story is brought to life again through Eggers creative writing, humour and touching own version.
The story was remarkable and really brought to life the imaginative children’s story it was based on the writing style was very unique and very personal. I felt engaged as a reader also the text was of a reasonable size and made it an ease to read. The story flowed well and was very imaginative.
For those of you who have read the book “where the wild things are” it will be a refreshing alternative and give you very interestingly thought up reasons for some of the events. For those of you who have not read where the wild things are it will be an new experience and make you feel amazed at the depth of imagination and characterisation of the story.
I really enjoyed the re-make which features very well at the time where the film is coming out. The story is a very good mix of the classic with some modern twists. I would recommend this book to any one of any age who either wants to experience something unusual or re-read a modernised version of a children’s classic that has stood the test of time.
I give this book 4 stars and would read it again.
