Review of The Way Of The Warrior
By Olivia Scott-Berry / Spinebreakers Crew
Chris Bradford, a martial arts enthusiast himself, has written a thrilling samurai series which will enthral readers from the get go.
Set in 1603, after the Portuguese have discovered Japan, Jack Fletcher and his father’s crew are shipwrecked off the coast. Repairs could take months. And as they settle down, and the night draws in, with it come the deadly wacko, sinister ninja pirates. Finding himself alone and having to fend for himself, we follow Jack as he begins to learn the way of the warrior…
Although this book is for a different, slightly younger target market, I enjoyed reading it. Not only is the story well written and witty, but it gives great insight into various Japanese customs, etiquette and language. However, I found that Japanese words were overused in the general text, which can make you stumble over the story frequently. But the witty language and elegant descriptions generally cover these glitches.
I found the book to be an exciting read, although I would recommend it to readers in the 10-14 age range. Overall, a thoroughly exciting and thrilling adventure.
