Books I love:

I was enthralled by Ann Patchett’s Bel Canto, which exceeds what one might consider a clichéd setting through its exceptional development of character. A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man, by James Joyce was by no means at all an easy read, but unlike much fiction, grows in beauty and stature on looking back and engaging in deep analysis. Theories and Apparitions, a collection of poems by Mark Doty is another favourite due to its sheer celebration of the wonders of everyday life – although perhaps appreciated all the more due to past loss and mourning..

Top five authors:

George Orwell
Charles Dickens
Sam Selvon
Patrick Hamilton
William Wordsworth

Favourite genre/s:
One of my biggest interests is twentieth century fiction, and writers such as Orwell, Hamilton and Selvon who chronicle not only the lives of characters but entire states of mind. I also read a wide variety of poetry – and have been writing more and more of my own in recent months, after a period of creative dormancy.

I’m currently reading:
The West Pier by Patrick Hamilton
